Material selection is important aspect in automobile sector, which is proportionally impact the safety, Milage,Weight & Cost of the car. This is common assumption that lightweight cars are unsafe. this assumption is completely wrong.safety is not dependent on the weight of the vehicle but dependent on the crumble zone of the structure. TATA NANO is one of the lightest vehicle(Around 600kg), but not a single report is reported for wind blowing & off road due to lighter weight.  Now are days manufactures looking for lighter weight vehicles for good consumption of fuel and greater mileage. Lighter vehicles have better power to weight ratio. manufactures are working to to have a lighter vehicle with lot of light weighted materials.  As we are talking about the crumble zone, vehicle are made enough to take the impact of the obstacles. it it heavily dependent on the structuring of the sheet metal. and also designed aerodynamically.
